Mic Listening

Let CannaFriend hear what you say on stream for smarter, context-aware responses.

How It Works

Mic Listening uses speech-to-text technology to transcribe what you say on stream. The AI then uses this context when chatting, so it can reference things you've said out loud.

1
Open the Mic Page

Go to Dashboard → Mic Listening (under AI & Automation)

2
Enable Your Microphone

Click "Start Listening" and allow browser microphone access when prompted

3
Keep the Tab Open

The page captures audio in 15-second chunks and transcribes them locally on our servers

4
AI Uses Your Speech

CannaFriend sees the last 3 minutes of your speech as context when responding to chat

Example: You say on mic "Man, I just had the best burrito" - then when a chatter mentions food, CannaFriend might say "The streamer literally just had the best burrito, ask them about it!"

Privacy & Security

  • Audio is processed locally on our servers using open-source Whisper AI - no third-party services
  • Audio chunks are transcribed and immediately discarded - we never store your audio files
  • Only the last 3 minutes of transcribed text is kept in memory, then it's automatically cleared
  • You can stop mic listening at any time by clicking "Stop Listening" or closing the tab
  • The AI only sees a text summary of what you said, not the actual audio

Tips for Best Results

  • Use a good microphone - clearer audio means better transcription
  • Speak clearly - the AI handles casual speech well, but mumbling may be missed
  • Keep the tab open - mic listening only works while the dashboard page is active
  • Background noise - the system filters out background noise, but very loud music may interfere
  • Browser permissions - make sure your browser allows microphone access for the dashboard
Note: If you use a virtual audio cable or routing software, make sure the mic input in your browser is set to the correct device.

FAQ

Does this use my stream audio?

No, it captures audio from your browser's microphone input. This is typically your desktop mic, not your stream output.

Will chatters hear my mic audio?

No. The audio is only used for transcription. Chatters only see CannaFriend's AI responses that reference what you said.

Can I use this on mobile?

Yes, as long as your mobile browser supports microphone access. Keep the tab active (don't minimize it).

How accurate is the transcription?

We use the Whisper AI model which is highly accurate for English speech. Slang, accents, and cannabis terminology are handled well.
